About This Work
Walrus, ungainly on land but agile and accomplished in the water, live in colonies on land and in this etching, Vincent captures the social interaction of a group as it confronts the outsider observing them. This is part of a series of works, the “Crow Series” in which Vincent was concerned with the social behaviour of animals in their own right but also in the ways such behaviours mirror those of humans.

Vincent was born in Dublin in 1945 and studied at the Dublin Institute of Technology and the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. He is an accomplished etcher, a member of the extremely important and selective Black Church Studio of Printmakers in Dublin’s Temple Bar district, and has work in the collections of Bausch & Lombe, Allied Irish Bank, the National College for Vocational Awards, Axa and Northern Bank. His work is often concerned with the social behaviour of animals and he has recently completed a study of the ill-fated expedition in search of the North West Passage by Franklin c.1845. He is currently working on a study of the many Megalithic structures to be found in Ireland.
