About This Work
In this series of work, Vincent was concerned with the social behaviour of birds, the extraordinary way in which they cooperate in flight and the ways in which such behaviour can mirror human behaviours. Here, the birds rise in a choreographed flock, wheeling and turning as if to some prescribed routine and rythm before heading off on their flight. Vincent captures this moment in a beautifully crafted etching which evokes the memory of a scene we have all witnessed.
Artist Background
Vincent was born in Dublin in 1945 and studied at the Dublin Institute of Technology and the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. He is an accomplished etcher, a member of the extremely important and selective Black Church Studio of Printmakers in Dublin’s Temple Bar district, and has work in the collections of Bausch & Lombe, Allied Irish Bank, the National College for Vocational Awards, Axa and Northern Bank. His work is often concerned with the social behaviour of animals and he has recently completed a study of the ill-fated expedition in search of the North West Passage by Franklin c.1845. He is currently working on a study of the many Megalithic structures to be found in Ireland.
