About This Work
This piece is one of a series using photography to create images of parts of the body as if seen through gauze, thereby creating a shadowy, passing effect. The original photographs were then treated and made into screenprints to further enhance the impressionistic effect of the graceful movement of a dancer's gesture, the slightly sepia/charcoal colouring adding to the antique quality of the print. Seen in the original print, the images in this series are particularly striking.

Artist Background
Born in Northern Ireland in 1982. Katherine studied in Germany before graduating in Fine and Applied Art from the University of Ulster in 2005. She was regarded as one of the finest students in her year group and has since pursued a career as a professional artist, curating the Mullan Gallery in Belfast where her work is also exhibited. Katherine was commissioned by Arts & Business Northern Ireland to produce work for RHM Commercial LLP, a new commercial property consultancy based in Belfast, held a one year bursary with the Belfast Print Workshop 2005-2006, and is currently working on commission and purchase works with Ulster Hospital's research department. She is primarily a printmaker, working with photo-etching, silk screen printing and traditional etching techniques, but also makes jewellery and is an accomplished painter.
