About This Work
Fiona’s background in Chemistry led her to develop a technique of print-making by which the electrolytic process is employed to transfer inks onto metallic plates, controlled by varying voltage, solution concentration, and other variables within the process. This electro-etch process creates effects ranging from Braille-like interruptions on the surface to stratified lines or less delineated, intensely etched areas. The works are at times reminiscent of scientific data, litmus tests or sound bytes and though the etched plates create works on paper in the accepted manner, the plates in themselves are intriguing objects of delight and are often exhibited.

Artist Background
Fiona’s first degree, from the University of Ulster, was in Biological Chemistry and only after graduating did she change course to gain BA and MA in Fine Art from the National College of Art & Design followed by MSc in Multimedia Systems from Trinity College Dublin in 2006. During this time and since, she has exhibited work in Dublin, Berlin, Copenhagen, and with the Printmaking Council of New Jersey and the New York Society of Etchers, USA. She is a member of the highly selective and prestigious Black Church Gallery of Printmakers in Dublin’s Temple Bar and has already achieved a significant reputation in her chosen field of artists’ original print making.
