About This Work
Colin’s work is a fine example of traditional etching at its best. By waxing a metal plate, scoring the lines in mirror-image through the wax and then immersing the plate in acid, lines are bitten into the metal which can then be inked. Other areas of the plate are covered with soft-ground, a powder which is baked onto the plate and then rubbed off so that ink can be applied to the grainy surface. Damp, high quality paper is pressed onto the plate and the image is transferred. The technique in itself is difficult to achieve regardless of the quality of the image and these three pieces of Colin’s work capture moments in a summer garden beautifully.

Colin was born in Dublin in 1973 and graduated in Fine Art with first class honours from the College of Marketing and Design before completing post-graduate studies. Colin’s excellent etchings have been shown in exhibitions in Dublin and Cork; group exhibitions in Ireland, Great Britain, Europe and Canada; and he was a member of the Print 2001 group, an exchange of Irish and French contemporary printmakers which held its exhibition in Paris.
