About This Work
These pieces are heavily impasted oil on canvas works which Angie has been undertaking during her current Heinrich Boll Residency on Achill Island. She lives on the coast to the north of Dublin and is deeply influenced by the sea and coastline scenes. This interest lends itself well to the deeply laid paint of her canvases which convey the tumult and intense colours of the sea as it pounds the shore. Many of her pieces are displayed side by side to intensify the effect of the work.
Artist Background
Angie graduated with Honours in Fine art from the National College of Art in Dublin where she also took a teaching qualification and then studied Art History at Trinity College Dublin. She has been exhibiting work in a variety of galleries throughout Ireland since 1990, including the RHA Annual Exhibition, the National Botanic Garden, and as part of the Beijing and Shanghai 2006 tour by the 6 x 6 group. Her work is in the collections of, among others, Aer Rianta at Dublin International Airport; Allied Irish Bank; Meath and Fingal County Councils. Angie is a member of the Broadstone Studio group in Dublin.
